As we head into the season of celebrating moms, dads, and all the forms of family that shape our lives, I’ve been thinking about one particular title I hold dear: Dog Parent.
Because, let’s be honest—my dog doesn’t just live in my home. He runs it.
In between the paw prints and the perfectly timed stares (you know the ones), I’ve learned a lot from him—lessons that surprisingly show up in the real estate world, too.
So, in honor of all the dog moms and dads out there—especially the ones who’ve ever asked if the backyard is fully fenced—this one’s for you.
1. Sniff Everything Before You Commit
No rush, no pressure. Whether it’s choosing the right house or the right partner in business, my dog reminds me that taking your time pays off. He doesn’t sit until he’s surveyed the landscape, checked the vibes, and maybe spun in a few circles. Honestly? It’s a method.
2. Curb Appeal Is Real
My dog knows within seconds if something’s worth investigating—nose in the air, tail alert. First impressions matter, and homes are no exception. You feel it when it’s right. He just happens to feel it with his entire body.
3. Location Matters, but So Does Sunlight
It’s not just about the zip code. It’s about where the light falls across the floor at 3 p.m., or where the morning breeze sneaks through the windows. My dog knows exactly where to be when the light hits right. If that isn’t luxury, I don’t know what is.
4. Loyalty Over Likes
He’s not interested in flash. He’s here for consistency, comfort, and showing up every single day. There’s a kind of quiet trust he brings—and that’s the same energy I aim to bring to my clients, colleagues, and friends.
5. Home Is a Feeling, Not a Floor Plan
Sure, the finishes matter. But the truth is, my dog can turn a corner of the couch into a palace. Because when it feels like home—when it’s warm, lived-in, and loved—it is. And that’s the energy we’re all really chasing.
To the dog parents reading this—whether you’re a client, a friend, or a fellow agent—I see you. You’ve got chew toys in one hand and dreams in the other. You make space not just for your pets, but for your people. That’s something worth celebrating.
Here’s to homes with room to roam, and to the dogs who show us what really matters.
